TechEthos (Ethics for Technologies with High Socio-Economic Impact) is a three-year EU-funded project that project that deals with the ethics of the new and emerging technologies anticipated to have high socio-economic impact. TechEthos aims to facilitate “ethics by design”, namely, to bring ethical and societal values into the design and development of new and emerging technologies from the very beginning of the process.
A horizon scan process helped us identify three technology families which have been our focus since 2021: Climate Engineering, Digital Extended Reality (including Virtual Reality and the Natural Language Processing), and Neurotechnologies. We have analysed the ethical and legal issues they raise and the societal values, attitudes and concerns they trigger.
Next, the project will produce operational ethics guidelines for these technologies for users such as researchers, research ethics committees and policymakers. To find out more and keep in touch with us, visit: www.techethos.eu.
