1 Year of the SIG Training Supervisors!

The first year of the SIG Training Supervisors and Leadership is coming to a close :sparkles: .

Here’s what we have been up to, and see  for what we need your help with!

The SIG had three events since its inception.

:one: March 2023 — we presented an overview of research on responsible supervision and mentorship, featuring Ana Marusic & Daniel Pizzolato
:two: September 2023 — two SIG members Daniel Pizzolato & Tamarinde Haven) conducted a workshop on the future of supervisor assessment and incentives for supervisors during the ENRIO Congress in Paris on “Supervisors’ role modelling of responsible research practices”.
:three: September 2023 — NERQ Congress — we presented an innovative European training programme for supervisors on “Exchange of good practices for training research supervisors”, featuring Sonja Bjelobaba.

The SIG will have three main targets for the next nine months:

:one: February 2024 – we will be facilitating “Virtual Marketplace on Good Practice for Training Supervisors and Leadership”
EARMA has awarded us funding to facilitate this event. The Gather platform will simulate the virtual marketplace with four “stalls” within. Each stall will have a symbol mapping to its function to support research managers, policy makers and researchers to weave their way through the intricate arena of good practice for training supervisors and leadership.
:two: Community of Practice
In parallel with the event in February, we are aiming to establish a community of practice around training supervisors and leadership, with outputs from the NERQ SIG interactive session - Exchange of good practices for training research supervisors to inform.
:three: June 2024 – We will be facilitating a symposium at WCRI on ”Leadership in promoting a research culture with integrity in institutions”
Symposium speakers include Bob Siegerink and Dena Plemmons. We hope to welcome many of you there!

Now…
This SIG seeks suggestions from its members and the wider NERQ community regarding whom to invite for the virtual marketplace. The virtual marketplace will through a virtual World Café method explore the following questions: What are examples of good practices for training supervisors and leadership? What works well? Are there barriers to overcome? How do we know if an initiative is working? How do we further develop and expand initiatives? Detailed descriptions can be found here: LinkedIn

If you know of individuals who might have insight (this might include you :point_left: ), please let Seán Lacey or myself know in the comments, through LinkedIn messages, or by e-mail. We look forward to co-shaping this event with the NERQ community.
